FAITH AND FITNESS: The 3 T’s of Change

October 30

Transaction. Transition. Transformation.

Change is part of life, but not all change leads to transformation. Some changes are temporary, others reshape our habits, and the most meaningful changes begin within us.

This month, as we focus on TRANSFORMATION, let’s explore the 3 T’s of Change—Transaction, Transition, and Transformation—and discover how allowing faith to fuel fitness can move us beyond simply achieving results to becoming who God created us to be.

Understanding the 3 T’s

TransactionTransitionTransformation
The FocusWhat am I getting?What am I changing?Who am I becoming?
The ChangeAn exchange for a desired resultA shift in habits, actions, or attitudesA renewal of purpose, identity, and daily living
Fitness Example“I exercise to burn calories.”“I’m building a consistent exercise routine.”“I care for my body because it reflects what I value.”
Faith Example“I do something for God expecting something in return.”“I’m learning to respond with faith instead of fear.”“My relationship with God is shaping how I live.”

Transaction touches the experience. Transition changes the practice. Transformation renews the person.

When Change Becomes Transformation

“…being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.” — 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NRSV)

We’ve all experienced the excitement of starting something new—a fitness program, a healthier eating plan, or a commitment to personal growth. But what happens when progress slows, motivation fades, or life interrupts our plans?

That’s where the difference between changing what we do and changing who we are becoming matters most.

A transaction may get us started. A transition helps us establish better habits. But true transformation gives those habits a deeper meaning.

When we view caring for our bodies as an expression of gratitude for what God has entrusted to us, fitness becomes more than a pursuit of physical results. It becomes an opportunity to practice discipline, patience, gratitude, and stewardship.

Transformation doesn’t mean perfection. It’s an ongoing journey of faith, grace, and intentional choices. As our hearts and perspectives change, our daily actions begin to reflect that growth.

The Spirit leads, and the body follows.

Take Your Next Faithful Step

Where are you in your journey? Consider the 3 T’s and choose one meaningful step forward.

1. TRANSACTION — Look Beyond the Outcome

Are you motivated primarily by a number on the scale, a physical appearance, or an immediate reward?

Your next step: Connect your fitness goal to something deeper—better health, greater energy, or the ability to serve and enjoy life more fully.

2. TRANSITION — Give Your Habits Purpose

Are you making positive changes but struggling to remain consistent?

Your next step: Identify one habit you can strengthen this week. Pray for guidance, create a realistic plan, and give yourself grace when life interrupts.

3. TRANSFORMATION — Celebrate Who You’re Becoming

Are your choices beginning to reflect a deeper sense of purpose, gratitude, and faith?

Your next step: Recognize one way you’ve grown—not just physically, but in patience, peace, confidence, or your ability to encourage others. Celebrate that growth with gratitude.

Faith Fuels the Journey

Lasting transformation isn’t simply about achieving a goal. It’s about allowing our relationship with God to shape our purpose, our choices, and the way we care for ourselves and others.

Allow faith to fuel your follow-through. Because the greatest transformation isn’t just what changes on the outside—it’s who you become on the inside.
